What is Showcase Victoria?
Showcase Victoria is the performing arts marketplace! Check out this video from the 2017 event to give you an idea of what to expect.
How do I apply to be part of Showcase Victoria 2018?
Applications can be made online only via the Showcase Victoria website.
When do applications open?
Applications OPEN on 01 NOVEMBER 2017 but you can download the application questions here to give yourself a head start.
When do applications close?
Applications CLOSE at 1PM (EST) on 4 DECEMBER 2017.
Is the application process the same as last year?
Yes! Applications will again be made in a ONE stage process. This means that the information you submit about your show on the application form in November will be the same information that Showcase Victoria attendees receive about your show at the event in April. So be as careful and accurate as possible!
Can I apply for more than one show?
Absolutely! There is no limit to the number of applications you can submit but you MUST submit a unique application for each production (even if you have 20 works in repertoire!)
What is a Presenter?
A Presenter is an individual or organisation that manages one or more venues or festivals and programs performing arts for their community.
What is a producer?
A Producer is an individual or organisation that creates works that fit under the banner ‘Performing Arts’. It is possible to be both presenter and producer!
Help! I don’t have a video clip of my show…
The quickest way to engage both the Selection Panel, venues and programmers, is with a high quality “teaser” video clip. If you are applying for a show that’s still in development, consider including video links to previous examples of your work, or why not include an interview with the director, or excerpts from your rehearsals/workshop sessions?
Whilst the tone of these examples may not be a good fit for your show, the techniques are worth noting – ie. good soundtracks, quality audio and great film work.
Do I have to submit the Budget Template with my application?
No, it is not compulsory to do so. If the Selection Panel require more information from you, they will request it.
Can you give me an example of a marketing slogan?
Use this link to explore the 2017 Showcase Victoria Program. Seeing what people have written in the past can be really useful.
Do I have to pay if my application is successful and I am selected as part of the Showcase Victoria program?
Yes! As per the industry standard, all “showcasing” producers must register in order to be part of the Showcase Victoria event. As program participants, you are eligible for the lowest rates. There is help available for regional producers through our Go Pitch Fund.
How many applications do you receive?
The average over the past three years has been approximately 150 applications for around 75 places.
Can I choose whether I get an Excerpt, Pitch or Expo session?
No, this is programmed by the Selection Panel based on their professional assessment of the best way to present your work and the time constraints of the program.
Can I apply from interstate or overseas?
Yes, however if similar work is submitted, preference will be given to Victorian-based producers.
Do you have any tips?
Yes! Remember that the audience at Showcase Victoria is predominately made up of venue and festival programmers and it’s important to bear that in mind when writing your application. For example writing “You’ll have to wait and see what happens!” in the synopsis is not helpful. Whilst it might be enticing to your potential audience, programmers need to know the full story as they’re the ones who have to decide if it’s suitable for their audience and then try to sell it!
My show is in development so I don’t have any marketing materials, technical specifications or a confirmed budget. What do I do?
Even though your production is still in development, by submitting an application to Showcase Victoria you are confirming that it’s ready for a performing arts marketplace. This means you need to have considered how the show will be marketed and how it will reach an audience. In order for the panel to assess your production please estimate the tech specs and budget to the best of your knowledge.
My work is an installation or roving performance, rather than a “show”. Am I still able to submit an application?
Yes, absolutely. Our aim is to showcase your work in the best possible light, and if your application is successful, it will be programmed with this in mind.
How do I set-up a Dropbox account?
Dropbox folders work well for sharing your support material because as long as you keep the same folder name, you can update the files within it and provide us with a single link to access the information. Here’s a tutorial on how to set up a Dropbox account.
